A night meant to celebrate Caribbean culture ended in violence during the West Indian American Day Parade on Monday, leaving seven people injured in a string of shootings and a slashing, according to the NYPD.
Fleming allegedly shot a man in the neck and leg near the parade route in Crown Heights.
That victim remains in critical condition.
Another man was also struck in the ankle and is expected to survive.
In just over an hour Monday night, police say four separate shootings and a slashing broke out across the area.
“It’s highly unfortunate that this happens and it’s just disappointing it happens every year,” said Crown Heights resident Peter Daniels. “Labor Day a lot of people come together and then you’re going to bump into somebody that you got issues with and it causes these disputes.”
Fleming is charged with attempted murder and assault.
Police are still searching for suspects in the other attacks and urge anyone with information to contact the NYPD.
