Police have arrested a man who they say is behind multiple attacks inside the Morgan Avenue L train station.

At least nine different women were attacked near or inside the subway station since August, police say.

Khari Covington, 29, is facing a hate crime charge because police say he appeared to be motivated to attack women because of a “hatred for light-skinned women.”

The NYPD charged Covington with eight counts of assault as a hate crime and one count of robbery as a hate crime.

Covington’s most recent attack was to an employee at Sunflower Glass Company near the subway station earlier in the week, police say. 

In surveillance video, Covington is seen slamming the 27-year-old woman worker to the ground and attacking her.

Covington was arrested hours after that incident. Residents say they are happy that the suspect was arrested, but they have felt unsafe at the station and would like to see more police surveillance.

Police say the suspect appeared to target women specifically at the Morgan Avenue L train station in East Williamsburg.

They tell News 12 the man who was initially arrested for four of the attacks has been released when investigators determined he was innocent.
