FDNY responds to basement explosion in Crown Heights
12h agoThe NYPD says a man was found dead inside a Breaking Ground building in Dumbo Monday morning.
Police say they responded to a 911 call at 90 Sands St. just before 6 a.m. and discovered the man unconscious and unresponsive.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the man suffered trauma to the head. The city’s medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Breaking Ground, the nonprofit that operates the affordable housing building, said in a statement it was “deeply saddened by the incident” and remains committed to the safety and wellbeing of tenants and staff.
Police have not yet released the man's identity.
