Police are investigating a possible suicide after a man was found dead in a car fire in Borough Park early Monday morning.
It happened at the intersection of 39th Street and 12th Avenue, where a 2018 Honda parked on the sidewalk became engulfed in flames around 3 a.m.
Firefighters found the victim unconscious and unresponsive in the driver's seat of the car. Crews say the man was dead before they had arrived.
Police say surveillance footage from a nearby storefront helped them piece together what led up to the blaze.
News 12 spoke to neighbors who say the victim might have belonged to a type of social club for men who wanted to abandon their Hasidic faith, located right next to where the car was parked.
The man has not yet been identified.
