Police in Brooklyn responded to a 911 call Tuesday about an emotionally disturbed person in an apartment building on Court Street and Atlantic Avenue.
Police say shoppers in Downtown Brooklyn took to social media posting that there was an active shooter in the area. The NYPD quickly responded, posting that the area of Court Street and Atlantic Avenue was closed earlier due to police activity and there was no active shooter.
Police did confirm, however, that officers responded to an apartment on the ninth floor where a man was believed to have a gun. ESU units and hostage negotiation teams were called to the scene.

Police were able to use drone technology to assess the situation and see inside the apartment.
After hours of negotiation, the man was taken into custody and sent to a nearby hospital.
Police tell News 12 that after further investigation they found the man had a fake pistol.
