3ds agoPolice say they found nearly $10 million worth of drugs inside of the apartment of a suspected fentanyl trafficker who is now facing charges.
Authorities say they found over 110 pounds of fentanyl and methamphetamine stashed inside of the University Heights apartment at 2478 Grand Ave.
Investigators were doing surveillance Tuesday afternoon when they spotted the suspect, Joel Nunez Cappellan, leave his apartment and enter an SUV with a bag in hand. Agents discovered Cappellan had a kilogram-sized package of fentanyl in said bag, and say he attempted to run before he was arrested.
A search warrant was granted, and suitcases used to hide bricks of fentanyl were found in his bedroom closet alongside vacuum-sealed bags of meth and colorful fentanyl pills were tucked into dresser drawers.
Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark released the following statement:
“Fentanyl and methamphetamine are coming into the Bronx and killing our neighbors at an alarming rate. We need to continue our focus on getting these drugs off our streets while holding traffickers accountable.”
