The NYPD is celebrating historic declines in shootings citywide during the first half of 2025.

NYPD data shows shootings are down 23%. This ties a record set in 2018.

The NYPD says it hopes to continue driving down crime in the summer months through its precision policing plan. It targets 72 zones in high-crime communities.

"Just 3.5% of the city's land across the five boroughs accounts for 41% of all shootings," said Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch. "That is a clear call for precision planning."

The department's summer violence reduction plan will deploy hundreds of extra officers to "trouble spots" like Brooklyn North to address the rise in gun violence.
