A 31-year-old Bronx woman is in critical but stable condition at St. Barnabas Hospital after police say she was stabbed by her husband.
According to police, 47-year-old Diomedes Valenzuela stabbed his wife multiple times in their Bedford Park home before fleeing to New Jersey with their 3-year-old daughter. Police put out an Amber Alert Tuesday on Rebecca Valenzuela, 3, but lifted it just hours later when New Jersey State troopers found and arrested Valenzuela.
New Jersey State Police say troopers from the Bloomfield station spotted the pair driving on the Garden State Parkway in Clifton, New Jersey, and pulled over the car. They say Valenzuela is now cooperating with detectives.
Valenzuela is a former Irvington Township, New Jersey police officer, according to the town's pension page and other government records. He retired due to health reasons.
