The pregnant wife of a Brooklyn man found dead along the Belt Parkway is looking for answers, as police work to determine how he exited a moving vehicle before his death. Police say 43-year-old Rami Elsuwi was found Thursday night near the 92nd Street overpass. They say he somehow exited the rear passenger window of a blue Hyundai Santa Fe, and hit his head on the guardrail. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene. His wife, who asked to stay anonymous, told News 12 Elsuwi called her when he left work in Williamsburg just after 6:30 p.m. She says he was riding home with the same driver who drives him almost every day. When Elsuwi did not arrive home in Bay Ridge and did not answer his phone, his wife said she grew worried. She used the Find My iPhone feature, which led her to the side of the Belt Parkway. She says the 69-year-old driver later told her he did not realize Elsuwi was no longer in the vehicle until he reached their destination. “I asked if there was a car accident, he said no,” she said. “He said it was bigger than that. Rami was not in the car.” Police are still investigating to find out why or how Elsuwi exited the vehicle. He was found between the guardrail and the fence. Elsuwi’s wife has pushed back against online speculation suggesting he was under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or the the may have taken his own life. She says her husband was a devout Muslim who did not drink, smoke or do any drugs, and was in excellent physical shape. She said he had no history of mental health problems. "If he exited that window in any manner, it was to save himself,” she said. "It was not to kill himself." Elsuwi is survived by his wife, who is eight months pregnant, and their 3-year-old son. She says she is speaking out to preserve her husband’s legacy for her children. She is asking anyone who was driving on the Belt Parkway between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Thursday to review dash-camera footage for any signs of the blue Hyundai Santa Fe or of Elsuwi.
