A multiyear investigation by the state attorney general's office revealed that abusive practices in the entertainment industry are to blame for the crazy resale hike in online ticket sales.
After people began complaining about outrageous prices, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman looked into the problem and eventually found that ticketing is a fixed game.
The probe determined that ticket sellers regularly tacked on fees that added more than 21 percent to their face value. And for many events, more than half the tickets were reserved for industry insiders.
According to Schneiderman, abusive practices conducted by brokers like MSMSS and Extra Base Tickets make it nearly impossible for some customers to purchase tickets.
MSMSS and Extra Base Tickets reached settlements requiring them to pay $80,000 and $65,000, respectively.
