A city program is providing internships for hundreds of young people who are in need of work experience.
Faidat Aweda is a college student who is studying accounting, and she is interning with Engraved Sign Studio at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The company makes signs for companies such as Starbucks and Bloomingdale's.
At first glance, the internship seemed unrelated to her field, but Aweda says it has opened her eyes to the prospect of sales and working with customers.
The city's Summer Youth Employment Program provides hundreds of city youths between the ages of 14 and 24 with up to six weeks of paid entry-level employment during the summer.
