Protesters claiming to be angry over an anti-Islam film have stormed the U.S. Embassy compound in Yemen's capital, Sanaa.
Yemen's president apologized to President Barack Obama for the attack, and a spokesperson said no one was injured. The protesters were on the embassy's grounds, but did not enter the building housing the offices.
Police in Cairo, Egypt have also been clashing with protesters near the U.S. Embassy for three days in row. The White House says the Egyptian president promised Obama in a phone call that the country will honor its obligation to ensure the safety of all American personnel.
The violence follows a fatal consulate attack in Libya Tuesdsay that resulted in the death of a U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. A U.S. warship is already in position on the Libyan coast and a second is on its way, while 50 Marines head to the country to reinforce security.
Investigators from the U.S. are looking into whether the attack in Libya was at all coordinated with the anniversary of Sept. 11, instead of as a reaction to the anti-Islam video.
Obama strongly condemned the attack in Libya and ordered U.S. flags be flown at half-staff in memory of the victims.
