Dozens of Bronx residents and community leaders gathered for a rally today to support members of the City Council who are pushing for a tenants' bill of rights law.
Under the proposed legislation, landlords would be required to display a poster explaining tenants' rights, including eviction protections, repairs and services a landlord is required to make and mandatory heat and hot water in all units.
Landlords would also be required to give a copy of the document to all the tenants with their lease.
Bronx Councilman Fernando Cabrera, who sponsored the legislation, says one of the biggest problems when it comes to housing is that tenants don't know their rights.
