P.S. 26 in Bed-Stuy kicks off ‘D-16 Reads’ initiative to get students reading
Students in Bed-Stuy spent the day with some special visitors as part of their new literacy initiative.
At P.S. 26, they kicked off D-16 Reads, a new initiative to get students reading.
The students are all from P.S. 26 Jesse Owens and Madiba Prep Middle School.
Their families, people in the community and District 16 Schools Superintendent Dr. Yolanda Martin all participated in the event.
Students from the Williamsburg High School of Architecture and Design also stopped by to help the middle school students build their own little libraries in partnership with Health for Youths and Little Free Library.
Friday’s visit to P.S. 26 Jesse Owens is just the start of the initiative, according to Dr. Martin. She says the district plans to visit all 20 school in District 16 by the end of the school year.
