Puerto Rican Day Parade of Fairfield County marks its 30th year

Thousands gathered in Bridgeport Sunday for the 30th annual Puerto Rican Day Parade of Fairfield County.
The parade kicked off at Central High School and ended at Seaside Park.
Organizers say the tradition is meant to empower the Puerto Rican community and put their history and culture on display.
Attendees told News 12 that the event was a perfect cultural celebration.
"I'm super excited to be enjoying this day with the community and showing pride,” said Evalis Vazquez.
"Everyone's Puerto Rican today, and you will feel it when you're here,” said Alina Gutierrez.
"It's a pleasure to be here and celebrate my culture and everybody else's,” said Nyah Ruis.
"The Puerto Rican Day Parade is one of the biggest parades in the City of Bridgeport and we're proud to be here,” said Fire Chief Lance Edwards.
Following the parade, a community block party was held at the park's band shell hosted by Bomba Radio.
