With the September primary just weeks away, the race for Brooklyn?s 11th Congressional District is heating up. Race is emerging as a key issue in the campaign. More than half the voters in the district are black and many say the position needs to be held by a black representative. Among the candidates are outgoing Representative Major Owens? son, Chris Owens, Carl Andrews and Yvette D. Clarke. The only candidate in the race that is not black is David S. Yassky. Yassky is the most well-funded candidate and has recently moved into the district. While many voters do not support a white representative, all the candidates agree that race should not be a factor and will continue to focus on the issues.
