The Red Cross is helping 12 households in Brighton Beach displaced by a two-alarm fire that damaged multiple homes.

The fire broke out just before 9 p.m. on the fourth floor of 2822 Brighton 8th St. Flames were visible from the street, burning bright against the night sky, as firefighters were seen breaking through windows.

In the aftermath, personal belongings could be seen scattered outside the building. Several floors sustained damage.

One resident, Abdul Qadir, who lives across from where the fire reached, walked News 12 through the aftermath. He shared his concern for his children, saying that at one point during the chaos, he didn’t know who he could leave them with.

The American Red Cross told News 12 that it has registered 12 households for emergency assistance, representing 34 adults and 15 children. Assistance may include temporary lodging and financial support.

Anyone impacted by the fire who has not yet registered for assistance is encouraged to contact the American Red Cross by calling 877-RED-CROSS.
