Businesses on Van Brunt Street in Red Hook are preparing for the stormy weather heading toward Brooklyn this weekend.
Three years ago during Superstorm Sandy, businesses in the area were completely flooded. Now business owners are taking extra precautions.
Oumar Cisse, general manager of Fairway Market, says it took a year to rebuild his store after Sandy. He installed about a dozen floodgates around the store Friday morning to keep water out. He says he is confident the store is prepared for the weather.
"We're ready. We've been following the progress of [Hurricane] Joaquin," says Cisse.
The area, right near the water, is particularly dangerous during a storm. Streets have already started flooding from the heavy rain.
