The officer involved in the fatal shooting of an unarmed Bronx teenager may not have been properly trained, according to published reports.
Ramarley Graham, 18, was killed inside his home last week during a narcotics bust gone wrong. The reports claim officer Richard Haste had no training as a street-level narcotics officer or as a plainclothes officer.
Members of the Wakefield community again met with the NYPD last night to discuss the investigation. Officers from the 47th Precinct told them that Haste may have been legally able to gain entry into Graham's home if he was in pursuit. Many in attendance disagreed, citing surveillance video which they say shows Graham was not running from police.
Police also reminded the community that Graham was believed to have been armed and dealing drugs. However, no gun was found and only a small amount of marijuana was recovered.
NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly yesterday ordered a citywide high-level review of the street narcotics unit to reassess training tactics.
