There's a new dog run in town and it's taking over Prospect Heights.

It's been a little over a week since 595 Dean St. opened its new residential dog park, part of a larger 60,000- square-foot public plaza for the community.

For pet owners like Alexi Niccum, she said this project was one of the reasons she moved into the apartment building. She said nothing is better than having a place to bond with her dog Finn.

"We've all been waiting for this to open and when it finally did... it's so convenient to be able to walk out the front door," said Alexi Niccum.

The dog run is surrounded by plenty of green space, including a garden, places to picnic, a fountain, walkways and a place for your furry family members. Jon McMillan, the developer behind this project, says more pet amenities are needed in this area.

"So we try to figure out what uses would complement what was already in the neighborhood," said McMillan. "Obviously dogs are hugely important, especially to our tenants. It's a way to bring our tenants together with the local community where they can all meet."

The new community spot is open until Sept. 30 from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and opens from Oct. 1 to April 30 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
