Neighbors and business owners on Fordham Road say crime is on the rise and security cameras should be re-installed in the area.Residents say NYPD surveillance cameras used to be on poles throughout the neighborhood and acted as a deterrent for petty thieves. Police say when the cameras were still present, crimes were reduced by 50 percent.Despite the drop in crime, the security cameras were removed last September due to lack of funding. The removal of the cameras was matched by an increase in foot patrol but business owners say it is not enough. Many believe the crime rate will continue to increase throughout the summer.Community leaders are now pushing for the re-installment of the security cameras.
