Riverdale residents are preparing for massive road work after Con Edison got the green light for a power line that will energize three areas.
The New York State Public Service Commission gave its final approval Dec. 13 after the utility company presented a detailed study outlining the negative affects of the project.
Con Ed had to address issues such as noise, blocked emergency services, tree removal, curb restoration, manhole replacement and detours.
Installation of the power cable, which will run under Riverdale Avenue from Yonkers to Manhattan, is expected to take away at least two lanes from the busy roadway. Many residents call Riverdale Avenue an artery packed with schools, stores and homes.
Construction will begin in spring. Residents and elected officials say they want more input in how the work will affect their community.
Con Edison maintains that residents will receive advance notice before work begins on their stretch of the roadway. The power line is expected to carry electricity to Westchester, the Bronx and Manhattan.
