Some Williamsburg residents were awakened Tuesday by a wall collapsing in their apartment.

Angelo Ruth says his apartment at 48 North St. was destroyed when the wall collapsed, pushing his bed at least five feet and trapping him inside. Buildings Department officials say the collapse was caused by construction of a seven-story building next door when workers poured concrete and weighed down the structure, forcing it into the building.

One tenant says she has called 311 about the construction many times to report that her apartment building was shaking during work. City records show the building has one open violation and has received more than two dozen complaints about illegal after-hours work and structural vibration.

The tenants whose apartments suffered damage say they are planning to sue the developer to compensate them for their destroyed belongings. The developer and project contractor did not return News 12 Brookyln's phone calls.
