After two recent violent encounters with a man in Bed-Stuy, the owners of Home Frite are now taking extra safety precautions.
Home Frite's location on Bedford Avenue now has security outside.
"We are Brooklyn strong," said the co-owner. "We will stand behind any menace to society like this. We're here to operate. We're here to make friends. We're here to feed people."
On July 31, a man named Ralph Louis was caught on camera yelling at a customer outside the restaurant, unprovoked. Employees say he then went inside Home Frite and threatened their lives.
"He came in so frantic," said the co-owner. "He scared everybody and was asked to step outside. And that made him quite angry. In fact, so angry that for the next six minutes, he grabbed whatever he could, including a metal pipe and bashed in nearly all of the front windows.
Louis was arrested minutes later, but was not jailed long enough.
He returned for round two less than 48 hours later - after Home Frite just replaced their windows.
"This time, he was there for 16 minutes until the cops arrived and arrested him again," said the co-owner. "Other residents of the neighborhood have seen him and said he stalked them."
Sources tell News12 Louis was arrested on Aug. 4 for vandalizing a bodega, blocks away from Home Frite.
At this point, the restaurant owners say they want this man to get the help he needs and to make sure even more businesses and residents nearby don't have the same experience.
"We chose this spot because we love the community so much and have been able to grow and make a lot of friends in this neighborhood," said the co-owner. "We can't imagine somebody that would target us like this, and that means, you know, somebody else could be easily targeted in the neighborhood, too."
The Brooklyn DA's Office says Louis is expected to face a judge for several charges against him.
