The city released the results of its annual homeless count Monday and although the numbers are down citywide, there was an increase in Brooklyn.
In February, teams of volunteers spent the overnight hours counting how many homeless people live on the streets. The Department of Homeless Services calls the survey HOPE or the ?Homeless Outreach Population Estimate.?
According to this year's report, there are more than 3,800 homeless people living on the streets citywide, which is down from last year. The Department of Homeless Services says there are 13 percent less homeless people. The survey also found that more homeless people are living on Brooklyn streets than last year.
HOPE is part of Mayor Bloomberg?s (R-NY) five-year plan to reduce the homeless population by the year 2009.
