Rev. Al Sharpton and the family of a Staten Island man who died in police custody were in Brooklyn Friday, demanding a civil rights investigation into the death. Rev. Sharpton, Garner's family and their attorney met with the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Friends and family gathered at the Bethel Baptist Church in Boerum Hill Wednesday to remember Eric Garner. The 43-year-old grew up in the Gowanus Houses.
In a video, which has since gone viral, Garner can purportedly be seen being brought down by NYPD officers using what appears to be a chokehold. He then allegedly suffered a fatal heart attack. News 12 is told Garner was being arrested on suspicion of selling untaxed cigarettes.
