A Rikers Island inmate has been indicted for attempted murder for beating a correctional officer unconscious, officials say.
According to the Bronx District Attorney, Rashidi Smith, 31, went up to the officer at his post and allegedly punched him multiple times. Investigators say Smith slammed the victim's head against a chair and concrete wall multiple times.
Smith is due back in court in November.
