A couple of rising Bronx rappers may have just gotten their biggest break yet. An industry icon featured on their song just hit more than a million streams on WorldStarHipHop. News 12 spoke with the duo about this potentially career changing news.
Gemini Jynx and Brandon Rose are on Cloud 9.
"When we linked up, me and Brandon, I always told him our first record should be with a superstar," Jynx said.
They got their wish when rap legend Jadakiss agreed to a verse on their song "Flood the Town."
The young artists networked with the superstar's cousin.
"Before ever doing anything, the cousin said, 'He's got to meet you in person. He's got to catch a vibe. He's got to feel the record. He's not going to just hop on anything,’" Rose said.
The song on the album City of Gems is meaningful on different levels.
"It was a pain record -- it felt like you were coming back from something," Rose said, "I have been dreaming about an album like this since when I first started, since when I was young."
Jynx says the goal was to bring rap icons together to unify the city after a difficult time.
"It represents what New York City hip-hop stands for," Jynx said.
Jynx calls himself a Jack of all trades -- he sings, he writes, he edits. Brandon Rose on the other hand, when he's not recording in the booth, he's teaching.
Both share a perseverance that created this opportunity.
