A person who was running the Brooklyn Half Marathon collapsed and died Saturday morning, New York City's fire department spokesperson said.
Police say the 30-year-old man was found unconscious and unresponsive on Ocean Parkway on Brighton Beach just before 9 a.m.
He was pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital. The runner's cause of death has yet to be determined.
According to authorities, more than 15 runners were transported to area hospitals during the race due to the day's summer-like heat.
Over 22,000 participants ran from Prospect Park to the Coney Island boardwalk in the half marathon, which returned to full capacity for the first time in three years.
Despite record-high temperatures, participants said they drank plenty of water and took other precautions to stay cool during the event.
