Around this time of year, ringing bells and season's greetings fill the air as Brooklyn residents filled with the Christmas spirit drop money into the Salvation Army's red donation kettles.
The worldwide organization's mission is simple: help the less fortunate. Donors say the group's impact is felt in the communities they serve.
Bell ringers will be outside the J.C. Penney in East New York Monday through Saturday. The Salvation Army of Brownsville is looking to raise about $60,000 this year to support multiple programs.
The Salvation Army has been doing its red kettle campaign since the late 1800s.
