After several years, miles of scaffolding is coming down at NYCHA housing developments across the city.

The Sheepshead Houses in Brooklyn is one of the public housing complexes where the scaffolding surrounding its buildings is being torn down.

Residents say the sidewalk sheds had been up for five years for no reason, making them feel like they were living in a prison. Many also complained about poor lighting underneath them, which made it dangerous to walk at night.

As News 12 previously reported, trash was covering scaffolding at Seth Low Houses in Brooklyn, but NYCHA has since cleaned it up.

Mayor Bill de Blasio made an appearance as crews got to work tearing down the eyesores. He says more than 43,000 feet of sidewalk shedding at NYCHA complexes is being brought down, which is equivalent to more than 8 miles.
