A scholarship fundraiser was held Saturday in Crown Heights by a family whose loved one was fatally shot in October of last year.
Melquain Jatelle Anderson was killed while waiting at a bus stop outside the Farragut Houses.
His mother started a scholarship and emergency fund in Anderson's name for $1,000 each at John Jay College, the school where Anderson earned his bachelor's degree.
She says she hopes the money goes to students who are struggling financially.
        The fundraiser raised $4,000.
One arrest has been made in Anderson's case.
