An elementary school is teaching its students about the political process by staging its very own mock election.
P.S. 249 set up a special mock election on Monday, letting children cast their votes for mayoral candidates in fake ballot boxes.
Over the past couple of weeks, students at the school had assignments about each mayoral candidate and on the voting process.
Even though their votes will not be counted in the real election, the school will announce this year’s election results over the school intercom.
One student says the whole experience has been very exciting.
“I learned more about the mayors and its inspired me so that when I grow up it will be easy for me to vote,” says fifth-grader Mariah Allard.
