Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) publicly opposed a new bill Tuesday that would allow Americans to carry concealed weapons across state borders.
The bill, which was proposed by Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), would permit gun owners to carry their weapons in most states as long as they follow the concealed gun laws of the state they visit. Schumer, who is pro-gun control, says the amendment "could endanger the safety of millions of Americans."
Residents like Bernard Smith, of the Bronx, say the bill could put even more guns on New York City streets. Smith, who holds gun turn-in events and awareness block parties, says his son died as a result of gun violence.
