The NYPD and Department of Transportation are increasing security on the Brooklyn Bridge after a series of security breaches.
The NYPD will now be stationing officers closer to the suspension cables and security gates, along with having police cars at both ends of the bridge. The DOT says it will also put up better barriers on the bridge.
The changes come after two German artists took credit for swapping out the American flags on top of the bridge with white ones last month. According to the Daily News, the American flags are now in possession of the NYPD. A Russian tourist also recently climbed to the top of the bridge and took pictures.
The NYPD's deputy commissioner of intelligence says the city is also looking into long-term changes to improve security.
