Senior citizens are fighting back after the Swinging Sixties Senior Center closed its doors Monday.

Community leaders say the city failed to keep up with the center's operational costs. 

Last year, the center was in jeopardy of being sold off to develop luxury condos. Various organzations, investors, community groups and elected officials all stepped in and pooled together funding to buy the building.

This helped to save the senior center along with a day care housed in the facility. 

Senior residents are hoping the city will come through with the operational funds needed. They say they don't plan to go down without a fight.

The closing also affects staff members, including some seniors who will be without a job.

The senior center was a place where senior residents could come to socialize, enjoy activities and exercise.
