Senior centers have gotten the OK to reopen after being closed for more than a year, taking a toll on seniors stuck in isolation.

June Johnson is a senior in Bay Ridge and says she is happy to hear that senior centers now have the green light to reopen after not seeing her friends at the center in over a year.

"I miss seeing those people. You socialize with people who have the same issues as you have. Could it be operations, could it be medication, and you really don't have that with your grandchildren or your children," said Johnson.

The announcement comes just weeks after Sen. Andrew Gounardes pushed for guidance from state and city officials on how the centers should reopen.

"It's so important that we're able to get back to normal and provide our seniors with this outlet," said Gounardes.

Mayor Bill de Blasio says while outdoor activities can begin immediately, the centers can fully reopen with social distancing and other safety measures on June 14.

Tuesday marked the lowest COVID-19 infection rate since the pandemic began, with a positivity rate of 0.83%
