We've got another birthday to celebrate today — and this one's for one of TV's most beloved shows for parents and kids alike. Sesame Street is turning 56 years old.
The show was the brainchild of Joan Cooney, a former documentary producer for PBS.
She wanted to create an educational show to help underprivileged 3 to 5-year-olds get ready for kindergarten.
It's estimated that around 80 million Americans have watched Sesame Street since its debut in 1969.
