Many circus and carnival workers have learned their craft at the Coney Island Sideshow School, a three-day seminar.
The 16-year-old program teaches students how to swallow swords, eat fire, walk on glass and snap their tongues into mousetraps, among other things, according to Adam Rinn, an instructor.
Students can come for fun or for professional development, and are also required to learn the history of side shows and freak shows.
They also have to sign an agreement due to the risk of injuries, although instructors say there have been no serious injuries during the seminars.
