A local nonprofit called Slice of Excellence is rewarding students for having perfect attendance with fresh pizza.
P.S. 168X in the Bronx welcomed Lorenzo Bernardez Jr. to reward their perfect attendance students on Monday.
Bernardez Jr. currently works as a construction project manager. He got the pizza-reward idea several years ago when he was a second-grade teacher.
“I want to show kids through academic excellence, through school-related success, that you can use your mind to make it out of the Bronx,” said Bernardez Jr.
He says students that were performing well during the pandemic were rewarded with a pizza delivery. The organization now celebrates 200 to 300 students per month, partnering with various local pizzerias to give back.
