Subway cars may soon be quieter, as some elected officials move to ban cell phones from the cars and platforms.
The city council is urging the MTA to create ?quiet cars? on subways so that riders don?t have to listen to the cell phone conversation of others.
Some subway riders say that although the subway isn?t a place for peace and quiet, they don?t want to listen to others talking on the phone during their ride.
In order for the policy to work, some subway riders will have to speak up about how they fell about the cell phone ban.
Last month, the MTA signed a contract with Transit Wireless Corp. to wire all 277 stations with cell service. An MTA representative says that it will take about four years to wire all of the underground stations.
