There were tense moments in a mall in Bay Shore Sunday afternoon after shoppers panic to what they thought was gunfire.
Suffolk police say officers who responded to the scene determined that it was not shots fired, but rather a jewelry case that was damaged by two male suspects.
They say the incident happened at the Macy's store at the South Shore Mall just after 4 p.m.
The suspects did not get any items and ran out of the store.
Witnesses say some shoppers panicked at the loud noise and ran out thinking it was gunfire.
