Police are searching for a person who stabbed a Jewish man near a synagogue in Crown Heights.

It happened Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of Kingston Avenue and Lincoln Place, which is a block from the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters.

An area flooded with the members of the ultra Orthodox community as Hannukah celebrations are underway.

"It was very shocking since this neighborhood is pretty quiet," said Sheva Tauby, who lives near the intersection where the stabbing happened.

Several NYPD police cars were on standby Wednesday evening, and officers were seen walking on the streets in a state of heightened security, not only in the wake of the stabbing, but also the terrorist attack at Bondi Beach.

"This is coming at a really, you know, a time when we all want to be joyous and happy," said Rabbi Eli Cohen. "We've been through a lot."Rabbi Cohen said despite fear in the wake of these attacks, Jews are rejecting hate and embracing what Hannukah is about.

"You feel like you want to make a statement about what's happening, light a candle," he said. "That's the best way to celebrate and that's the way to send out the message that nobody's intimidated by all of this. "We are told the victim is now recovering at home. The incident is being investigated by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force.
