The Stamford Police Activities League and Salvation Army are joining forces for backpack giveaway.
The giveaway will take place Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The two organizations have been holding the event for 20 years.
"People are pinched at the gas pump, inflation, all these things that affect the bottom line of families," said Stamford Salvation Army's Major Myron Smith.
Stamford PAL says it started with donating backpacks to a few kids in need and has since expanded to a big family event.
The event will be held at Stamford PAL's new facility at 245 Selleck St. for the first time.
"The officers there are going to be making hotdogs, and there's going to be activities for the kids to do," added Smith.
The registration period has closed, but walk-ins are welcomed for Stamford residents.
Organizers say proof of address, a picture ID and birth certificate for each child are required.
