The Connecticut Attorney General's Office has announced a civil rights investigation into the Greenwich Public School District after a video was posted online Tuesday of a school administrator making comments about his hiring practices.

Cos Cob School Assistant Principal Jeremy Boland is featured in an undercover video made by the Conservative group Project Veritas. Boland is heard saying in the video that he does not hire teachers he believes to be Catholic or Conservative.

Attorney General William Tong says he is invoking his civil rights enforcement authority to investigate any potential illegal discrimination.

"Discrimination, hate, bigotry against any person and against any religion or on the basis of age, or otherwise, is reprehensible and wrong. This video is disturbing," said Tong.

Both Republicans and Democrats have condemned his comments.

Tong says they will conduct a thorough investigation and review all of the evidence.

"I do not play politics with my enforcement authority and I do not play politics with civil rights investigations. And I definitely do not play politics with schools, kids, in schools and teachers and students, and families," he said.

The Greenwich Board of Education has scheduled an emergency meeting which will be held virtually Friday. The one item on the agenda is listed as a "discussion of privileged attorney client communication regarding the role of the Board of Education in employee termination proceedings."
