The state is reportedly trying to come up with ways to help Brooklyn and city ex-convicts find work and keep them out of prison.

According to a New York Times report, the state?s director of Criminal Justice Services has asked leaders from a variety of advocacy organizations to put recommendations into a report. The Independent Committee on Re-Entry and Employment estimates that many people released from prison or jail this year will be arrested again within three years. The committee is pushing for $25 million in incentives for employers to hire those with criminal records.

The fund the committee is pushing for would focus on specific neighborhoods, including Brownsville, Bedford-Stuyvesant and East New York. The governor?s office is reviewing all of the recommendations, but says any changes probably won?t happen until the next governor takes office.
