While public high school students are still learning from home, a Catholic school in the Bronx has opened its doors for ninth through 12th graders.
Monsignor Scanlan High School says it isn't taking any chances. It has installed temperature scanners, socially distanced desks and signs reminding staff and students to wash their hands and stay 6 feet apart.
Cleaning is also a top priority with the janitorial team--coming in three hours early every day. The private school reopened last Tuesday with their 450 students split up, 42% coming to school in person and 58% learning from home.
They say those who come onto the campus are divided, half in the morning and half in the afternoon to give them time for cleaning in between the groups and make social distancing easier.
The school has also hired a second nurse and took the extended closure since March to gut-renovate seven classrooms.
It has also upped its technology with new smartboards and webcams for remote learners at home.
In November, administrators say they’ll start offering a hybrid option of half in-person and half remote learning for families who feel more comfortable with that schedule.
