A statue of George Floyd was unveiled in
Flatbush Sunday as many in the country celebrate Juneteenth.
A 6-foot
wooden sculpture was unveiled in Brooklyn to honor Floyd who died at the hands
of a former Minneapolis police officer in May 2020.
George Floyd’s brother, Terrence Floyd,
says he hopes that people will continue to remember his brother through the
sculpture.
Terrence Floyd kneeled and took some time to look at his brother’s image after
the sculpture was unveiled.
Juneteenth
recognizes the day when the last slaves were freed in 1865.
The
artist of the sculpture, Chris Carnabuci, says he wants to channel the emotion of the social justice movement
sparked by George Floyd’s death through his art.
News 12 is told it will be on the corner
of Nostrand and Flatbush avenues for a few weeks before moving to Union Square.
