New Yorkers are enduring the scorching heat this week, and News 12 has tips on staying safe and cool.
As soon as you walk out your front door, you can feel the heat hit you.
Over at the Hunts Point train station, many in the Bronx will be taking their daily commutes to work. Not only is the hot weather uncomfortable, it can also be dangerous.
The best thing to do is stay inside, but if you do have to go outside, there's some things to keep in mind. Try avoiding strenuous activity since you can get hotter quickly if you do so. You're also going to want to hydrate more than usual.
Wear light colored clothing if possible and try to avoid being in the direct sun during peak sun hours, which is typically around noon.
Heat stroke is a real possibility if you're spending too much time outside. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, some signs to look out for include headaches, chills, muscle cramps, and nausea.
So, keep an eye on yourself and others throughout this very hot day.
If you don't have air conditioning at home, there are dozens of cooling centers open across all boroughs.
