Stevenson Family Health Center set to open to the public
The Stevenson Family Health Center has been given the green light from the Board of Health to open its doors on Tuesday at the same location as the former Soundview Health Clinic.
The president and CEO of the center says there will be new equipment and re-painted walls, but most of the doctors and nurses from the former clinic will still be working there.
The Soundview Health Clinic was forced to close after state Sen. Pedro Espada was convicted of embezzling thousands of dollars from the center he founded.
Founding Medical Director Neil Calman, who has been with the clinic since it opened in 1981, says he is glad to be back 30 years later, to serve the 60,000 residents in the community.
